Cepheus and Cassiopeia of Ethiopia had a daughter, Andromeda. As one of the most beautiful nymphs in the sea, Cassiopeia was said to be more beautiful than the Nereids, the beautiful sea nymphs. A sea monster was sent to terrorize the kingdom because of this, angering the sea god Poseidon. As a sacrifice to the monster, the king and queen chained their daughter to a rock.

On his way home from killing the Gorgon Medusa, Perseus, the son of Zeus and Danae, happened to fly overhead. In an instant, he became smitten with Andromeda, who was chained to a rock. If her father would allow him to marry her, he would slay the monster and save her.

As a result, Perseus set about slaying the monster with Cepheus’ permission. As a result, he was able to turn the sea monster into stone and save Andromeda. Soon after they fell in love, they were married.

Despite being overshadowed by Perseus, Andromeda was a strong and brave woman. As well as having to deal with the aftermath of her mother’s vanity, she was willing to sacrifice herself in order to save her kingdom from the sea monster. Poseidon’s wrath was caused by Cassiopeia’s claims of beauty, which caused the kingdom’s troubles in the first place.

Andromeda is often depicted in art and literature as a beautiful woman chained to a rock, waiting to be saved by Perseus. It is important to note, however, that her story is much more complex than this.
