Bringing tech talent to UK businesses. Through innovation with technology, Google has been closing the opportunity gap for people around the world in areas like education, access to information, job mobility, and more. Providing skills necessary for participation in the digital economy is our way of ensuring sustainable economic growth in Tech Talent UK.
Over 800,000 people in the U.K. have been trained in digital skills through Grow with Google, our digital skills training program.
In addition to Grow with Google, we launched Google Career Certificates, which provide job seekers with access to careers in high-growth industries, including data analytics, IT support, project management, user experience design, and digital marketing. Seventy-eight percent of U.K. Certificate graduates report a rise or a new job within six months of graduation.
UK Employer Consortium
A UK Employer Consortium has been established today, consisting of employers such as the BBC, BT Group, Deloitte and John Lewis Partnership, which will consider those with Certificates for employment. As a company, we have always believed that collaborating with others is more effective than acting alone, and we have long been committed to partnering with others.
To help Tech Talent UK job seekers complete a Certificate, we have partnered with organizations including the Department for Work and Pensions and The Prince’s Trust, and we will begin offering another 10,000 scholarships today.
In tandem with the U.K.’s dedication to higher education, we believe the Consortium will play an important role in preparing the country’s digitally skilled workers and filling its growing number of technology vacancies. There are many open positions in the certificate fields due to the difficulty employers have finding candidates for digital roles.
Tech Talent Benefit to UK Employers
Employers across the U.K. can benefit from Google’s commitment to help them find great Tech Talent UK like Jelena Stephenson, with whom I had the pleasure of meeting some of the first U.K. students who will be participating in our Certificate program. During her 15 years in Serbia, Jelena worked as a teacher. In the wake of her husband’s leukemia diagnosis, they moved to London, where she quickly discovered that she couldn’t find a job as a teacher despite her strong background in education.
The Googler Career Certificate in Project Management scholarship Jelena received helped her regain the confidence she had lost while out of work, and she found a position as a digital project coordinator.
As a British citizen, it has been a pleasure to see how our program has progressed in the U.K., particularly in the lives of people such as Jelena. Building the UK Consortium and connecting growing businesses with talented jobseekers are two of the key objectives of our program, which we are eager to further evolve.
